Weight Loss

How to Achieve Optimal Weight Loss Results

It’s the new year and millions of people across the globe have something in common and that’s weight loss. After being in the weight loss industry for nearly 3 decades this is nothing new to me. I’ve seen time and time again people make a new year’s resolution to eat better and lose weight. However, only a small percentage of those people will reach their weight loss goals because of one simple reason. Not seeing results!

Most people I consult with think that cutting their intake of food and exercising is all it takes to lose weight. Well, in some cases maybe. Why? Because every person is different and while your best friend may get away with cutting calories and exercising more, you may not. As a matter of fact, even a person who cuts calories and exercises more may only see temporary results at best.

Don’t do what other people do when it comes to weight loss!

If you have the mindset to follow what most people do when it comes to weight loss, you are most likely setting yourself up for failure even before you begin. While most people can benefit from exercise in some form or another, a lot of people will cause more harm to their body by doing the wrong exercises. If we take it a step further and throw in the diet part, most people will really mess up here by eating less food.

So, now we have someone wanting to do some good by losing weight and getting healthier, and the whole time they are throwing their body out of whack so to speak.

The problem I see with most people is not knowing what, when, and how to eat when it comes to weight loss. Over half of these people won’t even include exercise in their program and those that do won’t have a clue what works best for them, or they might think they know because they’re doing what their friends are doing, or they are mimicking someone at the gym.

Knowing how to exercise for your body type is most important!

Most people think that any form of exercise is okay when it comes to weight loss, so they do whatever. I can always distinguish the beginners from someone who has been in the gym with experience. First of all, by appearance and second of all by how they glide around the gym with a purpose. They know exactly what exercises to do and how to do them.

Beginners or someone who thinks they can just exercise and they will lose weight are the ones getting on different machines, sitting around on their cell phones, or maybe walking a treadmill.

Both proper diet and exercise will yield the fastest weight loss results!

Fact is, if you want to see optimal weight loss results, you must include proper eating habits and you must do the proper exercise for your specific body type. For example, if I have a client that has a large mid-section and skinny legs and arms, they will do something different when it comes to eating and exercise than someone who has a smaller mid-section and larger hips, buttocks, and legs.

You’re probably thinking, that’s easy. We will just exercise those parts of the body that are the largest and bingo. They will see optimal weight loss results. Wrong!

Learn how to lose weight in your stomach!

Let’s talk about the mid-section first since most people tend to store excess body fat in this area. Why? Because this is the area that contains more fat cells when compared to any other part of the body, so when your body needs to store excess calories in the form of fatty acids, it goes straight to your belly.

What is the number one exercise you think that most people do to try and slim down their mid-section, waistline, love handles, abdomen, stomach, or whatever you want to call it? If you said sit-ups, crunches, twists, or anything else you can think of when it comes to exercising your mid-section, you hit the nail on the head. Don’t worry, you’re not alone because 99% of all my clients thought that as long as they exercised the part of the body they wanted to trim down, they would surely be on the right track on losing weight.

When I explain in detail how the body works when it comes to storing fat and burning fat to lose weight, they are all in awe! Some had worked out for years and lost weight everywhere on their body except for the spare tire around their waist. Wow, isn’t that strange you might think. No! This is how the body works and we were created to store fat so in case of an emergency, like not eating, the body could convert stored fat back to glucose and use it as fuel for energy.

So now you’re probably thinking that if you don’t eat or at least eat less, you will lose body fat. Yes and no! Yes, you will lose weight in the form of body fat and muscle if dieting alone without exercise. However, the body fat you lose will first come from the areas that your body was less prone to store fat in the first place. For example, if your body is more prone to store fat in your mid-section, it will pull stored fat from your arms, legs, buttocks, etc. and leave the mid-section for last. This means if you are about 20 pounds overweight with a spare tire on your mid-section, you can lose the 20 pounds in the form of muscle and fat, but in the end, you’ll still have your spare tire!

If you are exercising as well as dieting, your body will do the same, except most of the weight loss will be in the form of fat, but you will still have your spare tire once you lose the 20 pounds!

Okay, at this point you’re probably thinking how do I lose fat from my mid-section or any problem areas I have on my body. Right?
