Here
we go again–another ugly word. Let me explain a little about this ugly
word. Cholesterol is measured by how many milligrams of cholesterol are in
one deciliter of blood (1/10th of a liter of blood). As a rule our
cholesterol level should be below 200mg/dl. Most physicians I spoke with
like it around 150mg/dl. Any number higher than 250mg/dl is considered to
be high risk for heart disease or stroke. Why? Because cholesterol flows
around in your blood, and it can easily make its way to blood vessels,
stick to the walls of arteries forming plaque-like deposits and eventually
leading to arteriosclerosis, or worse, heart failure. If you are concerned about your blood
cholesterol level, then we suggest going to your nearest pharmacy and buying
a test kit or consulting with your physician.
So, how much do we need to
eat of this ugly stuff? Actually none! Our liver manufactures cholesterol,
about 1,000 mg a day. Most physicians recommend that your daily intake should not exceed 200mg to 300mg.
Now
that we have talked about cholesterol can it keep you from
losing weight if your levels are too high? YES it will! In order for your
body to burn fat efficiently each blood cell must carry an adequate amount
of oxygen throughout the body to each and every organ. High levels of
cholesterol hinders that process.
Now I bet you are wondering how you can lower your cholesterol if it is
high. Since each person is different Johnnie will make recommendations based on your
unique body-type and lifestyle by designing you a low cholesterol diet.
